Initial Opioid Abatement Summit Held in Stevens Point

Aug 19, 2022

On August 22, 2022, the Wisconsin Counties Association held their initial Summit on Opioid Epidemic Abatement, with over 150 county and local officials in attendance. The event, held at the Holiday Inn Stevens Point Convention Center, was the first opportunity for counties and municipalities that are receiving settlement funds from opioid litigation to gather to discuss how to work together to maximize abatement efforts.

“This event gave attendees a chance to hear from subject matter experts from the state and national level about next steps, best practices and resources that are available to counties as they begin the process of maximizing settlement dollars,” said WCA President & CEO Mark D. O’Connell. “As settlement dollars come in, we anticipate holding more sessions like this to empower local governments to collaborate, as well as brief them on the latest happenings regarding this critically important issue. It is exciting to begin thinking about how to best put these funds to work in abating the opioid epidemic in communities throughout the state.”
